How To Properly Care For Your Forklift's Battery

news 16th August 2016
The battery is the vital component of every forklift, whether your forklift is electric or hybrid powered, the battery is essential to a high performing forklift. Taking care of your forklift's battery is essential to prolong lifespan, promote performance and ensure operational readiness.

1. Check Battery Fluids

Although this may seem very obvious, it is vital that battery fluids are checked frequently. Simply unscrew the two housing bolts and check that the levels are at appropriate levels. It is very important to also check the battery is not leaking fluid as this can cause both operational and safety problems.

2. Keep Your Battery Charged

It is recommended that your forklift battery is charged to a high level at all times. Allowing the battery to drop below 30% can have negative effects on the lifespan and battery performance itself.

3. Prevent Freezing and Overheating

As forklift parts and components can easily freeze or melt, it is recommended to store them in ambient room temperatures. Preventing freezing and overheating not only protects the battery itself but many of the terminals and elements as well.
